An active, character-driven Hogwarts experience set in the early 2000s. Unique items, plots, and features. Non-canon; this isn't Harry Potter's story, it's ours.
A new day at Hogwarts began with a mild drop in temperature after a bit of late-night rain. It was gone by sunrise, leaving white clouds and damp castle grounds in its wake.
The head staff table was already full, though conversations were stern and tense - in the aftermath of the prank against Slytherin the night before. Members of that house were cautious and cranky as they began to emerge for breakfast, many hungrier than usual after having their dinner plans so rudely interrupted. There was no sign of the pink glitter, but it wasn't far from the minds of students and staff.
Owl post hadn't arrived yet, but the class schedules for the day were magically assigned to everyone who sat at their house table. They are:
Classes Before Lunch 2nd years – History of Magic 3rd years - Herbology 4th years - Defence Against the Dark Arts
Class After Lunch 5th years - Defence Against the Dark Arts
Homework Session After Lunch 1st - 4th years
Owl Post will arrive soon with the Daily Prophet. Morning class threads will be available for posting in once breakfast ends, and afternoon ones when lunch ends. If there aren't students in a particular year, that class won't occur - 6th and 7th year classes aren't even listed on the schedule.
Elara entered the great hall, still feeling slightly drowsy from a night well rested. Making her way over to the Hufflepuff table, she grabbed a slice of toast for herself and began to idly eat it. Her mind was focussed upon her first class of the day, defence against the dark arts. She wondered if the lessons would be harder than the previous year and if they'd be learning more advanced magic. Brown eyes scanned the hall for anyone she might recognise, but the downside to being an early riser meant that many of her friends had yet to leave their dormitories.
Eleanor walked into the Great Hall, immediately looking towards the Slytherin table to see if there was any residual pink glitter on any of the snakes who were present, but she was disappointed to see that was not the case.
Checking the schedule for the day, she was glad to see there were no classes until afternoon, and then when there was class, it was DADA. She enjoyed classes that were hands-on, and hoped this would be more practical than lecture. She filled her plate with eggs, sausage and a pastry and began to eat, wondering what sort of mischief she could get up to during their free time. Maybe she could even convince Jacob and Thomas to work on the dare list with her.
Sipping pumpkin juice, she thought with certainty that this was going to be a pretty great day.
Adeline walked into the Great Hall, her head down as she read through a book on ballet as she walked. She managed to avoid everyone and everything in her path, which would probably surprise someone who didn't know she had a special talent for being aware of her surroundings and a gracefulness that helped her in her mindless navigation. She sat at the table, putting fruit on her plate and nibbling on it as she finished her page, then she closed her book and looked around to see who had shown up yet and to check the timetable.
She was pleased to see Herbology was taking place this morning, looking forward to a busy and productive day, and after finishing the banana she was eating, she glanced a nearby 4th year she recognized from around the common room. "Elara, right?" Adeline asked, looking for someone to strike a friendly conversation with.
Lailee made eye contact with no one as she walked into the Great Hall and sat at the Slytherin table. She grabbed a piece of toast, nibbling on the corner absentmindedly as she checked the timetable for the day. She remembered Amara saying she had plans for her and Megan, and after Amara's temper in the dorms, she didn't think she'd have chosen to spend time with her anyway even if they hadn't.
Instead, she let her mind wander to who else she could spend time with so she didn't have to wander around alone all morning. She remembered Becca said she had no plans. If that had changed, she supposed she could see what Anise was planning--if the rest of the dorm was learning how to socialize with each other after all of these years, there was no reason Anise couldn't be included as well.
Lailee put down her toast, yawning, and looked around the room. She spotted Eleanor, which reminded her of dinner the previous night, which reminded her of the glitter. Suddenly anxious, she looked around the dining hall and her table suspiciously, making sure there was nothing obviously nefarious going on. Satisfied, she nipped another corner of her toast, before realizing she wasn't that hungry despite her interrupted meal the night before. She briefly wondered if she should be concerned about her lack of appetite, but brushed it off as unimportant, figuring by lunch she'd probably be ravenous.
She sipped some juice, contemplating whether she just wanted to go outside and skip out on having to socialize with her peers or if she wanted to wait around and see who would turn up. Then she remembered Lucas, and how she wanted to apologize to him for her attitude the previous night, and decided to wait around to see if he'd turn up.
Elara continued to nibble upon her slice of toast, taking a cup of pumpkin juice and routinely sipping from it every few minutes or so. She wasn't a big breakfast person, often finding that she didn't grow ravenously hungry until lunch time at the very least- however, it was frowned upon to skip breakfast (apparently the most important meal of the day?) so she humoured those that actually cared about that by eating a slice or toast or a piece of fruit each morning. The hall was gradually beginning to fill with students seeking to eat their fill before their first lesson of the day and she watched them all with vague interest as they took their seats and filled their plates.
A feminine voice nearby caught her attention and she turned her brown gaze on the girl who was sitting close by, a few seats down from her. She recognised the third year girl from the common room and previous meal times, but they hadn't actually had the opportunity to speak before- until now. "That's me" she answered, offering the younger student a friendly smile and placing her half eaten slice of toast back upon her plate so that she wasn't tempted to take a bite while they were talking. There was nothing worse than someone who spoke with their mouth full. "And you're... Adeline? Right?" arching an eyebrow quizzically, she awaited confirmation, hoping that she hadn't completely messed her housemates name up.
Hanna pushed through the doors of the Great hall, tripping over her own feet as she rushed to make herself presentable. She had fallen asleep in the Astronomy tower late last night after sneaking out after curfew and somehow she had ended up sleeping through most of breakfast. As the dark haired girl straightened her tie, and combed her fingers through her hair, she made her way to the end of the near deserted Slytherin table. Her eyes flicked across what was left of the breakfast buffet, already making a mental note to get to the Great hall quicker if she planned on actually eating. Her mind began to wonder towards her first lesson of the day, Defence Against the Dark Arts, she debated whether or not she should go to class even though she knew she needed too. Hanna needed a good grade if she wanted a future outside of Hogwarts but as she looked around at the groups of friends smiling and chatting and then to the empty chairs around her she couldn't seem to care. "Maybe if I actually got to breakfast early I'd have food and friends" she chuckled at her thought before her wandering eyes landed on Elara. it wasn't like Hanna didn't have friends, she had Elara but she had other friends and Hanna spent to much time with her head in the stars. A yawn broke though her thoughts and she reached up to cover her mouth before taking one more look at the table in front of her, finally deciding on starting with a drink to wake her up.
She sighed as she lent forwards for the half empty jug of orange juice, carefully pouring herself a glass and bringing it to her chapped lips. Hanna drained her juice in seconds, her eyes closed in enjoyment as the tangy drink woke her up a little, bringing a napkin to her lips to erase any proof of the act before placing her now empty glass down. She yawned again as she brought her hand up to wipe the sleep from her eyes and as they slowly opened again they locked on to a lone croissant half way down the table, her stomach grumbling at the sight of it. She took a quick look around as she slowly shuffled down the bench, hoping nobody would mind if she had the last one; it was rightfully hers after all, right? Finders keepers and what not. As she got close to where the croissant so beautifully sat; perfectly golden, buttery and oh so soft, she reached out her hand and snatched the pastry from its resting place before quickly shuffling back to her comfortable corner seat in hopes to eat her prize.
marrow came in with his head down a bit nibbling on his food. His great grand father had messaged him saying he missed him and there talks with that in mind marrow saw it has more of a sympathy ploy to make him more obedient. then again he wasn't sure with him at all. he just set there thinking to himself what dose it all matter anyway isn't magic magic he was trying to hype himself up a bit more he found himself eyeing the room for his friend but didn't see her so he set in his solace humming his songs.
Becca flopped ungracefully onto the bench opposite Lailee, not even looking at her friend until she'd filled her plate with a healthy breakfast. She ate a few bites, yawning tiredly and resting her head on the table. All of the effort she put into her appearance soon meant nothing as a few strands of hair slipped out of the hair tie and her clothes started to wrinkle from her position. After a few moments, she tilted her head to see her roommate, muttering, "Too early. Need sleep."
After a few minutes of forcing herself to feel alive, she pushed herself back up and turned her attention back to her breakfast, her appetite growing stronger than her fatigue. Becca swallowed a bite of yoghurt and eyed Lailee's abandoned toast, "Eat. Picking at food instead of eating it isn't healthy."
She finished her breakfast and then thought to glance at the schedule for the day. Stifling another yawn, Becca asked Lailee, "Want to hang out by the lake this morning? A friend and I missed out on plans with each other yesterday afternoon and I was going to ask him to join me, but I'd like it if you came along, too. He's nice, you'll like him."
"Yes, that's right. How's it going?" Adeline replied with a smile, then gestured to the timetable, "Are you excited for DADA this morning? I have Herbology, and I'm looking forward to it."
Adeline wasn't terrific with small talk, but until she got to know the other girl she really didn't have much to say, so it was a necessary activity. She smiled shyly, adding, "I'd much rather be in class learning new things than doing homework. This afternoon will be so boring!"
Adeline took a sip of juice in an effort to make the silence seem less awkward as she tried to think of something to say to the older student. Still, even if she wasn't very good at idle chitchat, she was happy to have someone to talk to, as she knew very few students in her own year.
Lailee smirked slightly at Becca's overly dramatic antics. Sure, the way they were awakened was not the best way to have been brought to consciousness, but it wasn't as if they weren't going to have to be up soon anyway. She was amused by the display, though, and didn't comment or put Becca on the spot over it.
Instead, she used the time to study the staff table, where the professors seemed very serious for so early in the morning. She hoped it was because they were close to catching and punishing whoever it was that had made a mockery of their house the previous evening.
She looked back at Becca when her friend mentioned eating breakfast, and Lailee shrugged slightly, "I'm just not hungry yet. I don't like to eat first thing in the morning." She really hated to be in the center of attention in this way, and she wished Becca would just drop it. She supposed it was just being a good friend or something, but no one had ever paid this close of attention to her before and it was quite unsettling.
Relieved at the change of subject, Lailee readily agreed when Becca asked her to join them at the lake. With a bright smile, she asked Becca, "Who else are you inviting? I mean, it's not a Gryffindork is it?Or one of their friends?" In all honesty, she was just glad for the invitation, as she wasn't usually picked as a companion for most people. It was nice to be thought of, and she was happy she had taken a chance when Becca had expressed interest in building their friendship.
As it usually was at mealtimes, the Great Hall buzzed with activity. Ruby sat down at the Hufflepuff table and helped herself to a nice glass of orange juice and some toast. She was looking forward to spending the day exploring with Marrow.
Kieran Bane wandered into the hall looking like the walking dead. Although a messy morning person to begin with, his hair seemed even wilder than normal and dark circles could be seen faintly under his eyes. He wasn’t entirely sure why he felt so disheveled and tired, but he had a pretty good inkling that it was related to waking up halfway under a sofa chair.
In retrospect, it probably hadn’t been wise to sleep in a fort, but sleep or no sleep, it had still been fun. Part of him wanted to make the tea parties a permanent thing in Hufflepuff. The other part of him though... well, that part of him wanted to kick his ass for even considering it.
Kier shuffled over to the Hufflepuff table and flopped down onto the bench before almost immediately filling his plate with as much bacon as he could. Anything could be made better with bacon. Or at least almost everything.
Halfway through his breakfast he thought to check his schedule for today and instantly regretted it. DADA. He had to take care not to let his expression reveal his thoughts, which had suddenly gone dark at seeing that class. It posed numerous problems for him and almost always meant he was about to be hurting and regretting his life’s choices. And now with Amara... ... If they pair me against her I’m so dead...
marrow just stared off into space swinging his feet back in forth. he wasn't sure but he did keep humming to himself wandering what kinda day is he gonna have cause so far there hasn't been any conflict he liked that a lot then again this is a new day who knows he pulled out some parchment and a pin and began to write but didn't know what to say. the young boy found himself looking off into a day-dream. leading to a smile that danced across his face.
Hanna quickly finished eating and took a look around the room, her eyes locking on to Elara once again who seemed to be having a slow conversation with her house mate. She shook her head and smiled as the shy Hufflepuff introduced herself to her friend, she then pushed herself up and out of her seat before dawdling over to Elara. As she made her way over to her long time Hufflepuff friend she couldn't help but think back on all the fun memories they had made in this school, a chuckle falling from her lips as one particular memory passed through her mind. They were in their 2nd year, sometime past curfew, Hanna had snuck into the kitchens to test a new recipe and lets just say, from that day on Elara has to remind her to use sugar and not salt when making something sweet. She shook her head as she came to a stop in front of Elara, just in time to hear the other Hufflepuff girl talk about todays classes.
"I might skip, go to the greenhouse instead"
She spoke to neither one in particular as she sat down across from Elara, quickly reaching out to a full jug of orange juice so she could pour herself a drink. Once her glass was full she placed the jug down once again before smiling and waving at the other Hufflepuff.
