Food vanished, returning everything to their sparkling-clean state. A moment later, dessert appeared in a delightfully tempting array of choices. Once enough time had passed for everyone to enjoy a little something, Professor Rickard stood at the podium again.
'Prefects will lead the first years to their common rooms now,' he said, addressing the hall. 'Being the first day of a new school term tomorrow, we're having an early curfew in ten minutes. I expect everyone to finish here and head to their house areas at that time. The usual schedule will resume tomorrow. Rest well.' And with that, he headed out a side door along with several other members of staff. A few remaining to finish their pudding and oversee the students still in the Great Hall.
'First years, follow me!' A prefect at every house table signaled to their newest members, ready to lead them to where they'll be living for their duration at Hogwarts. By the Ravenclaw table, Ryan was nudged by the prefect - who then indicated to Gerald and Danielle. She waved them over to her and led the way out of the hall.

Posting an exit here is optional. Posting resumes in your house common room - everyone's welcome to join the thread for their house, or make a new one in their dorms. The countdown has begun for the new RPG day; keep an eye on it, as all threads must be concluded and ready for archive by that time. Note that #1 is always much shorter than usual, so more time will be granted at each timeslot going forward.

Sophia was secretly glad for the early curfew, which wasn't something she'd ever thought possible. But she was tired and wanted an excuse to just relax for the rest of the night. She nudged Callie, leaning closer to be heard over the sounds of many students leaving and the prefects giving instructions.
'Oi, I had an idea,' she said. 'We should head to the common room now, and you could make some sort of speech? Let everyone know you're the captain and to seek you out if they're considering being on the team? I don't know, and whatever else captains might say? Something casual, nothing with too much pressure. Just...I think it might be good, you know? Show you're a leader right away.'
Sophia pat Callie's arm as an apology for putting her on the spot, but of course her friend didn't have to do it. Was just an idea. And it was about the last idea Sophia had for the day as she rose from the seat, finishing the last of her ice cream in a hurry. 'Think about it. I'll meet you there, then we can just chill in our dorms for a while and catch up.'
Julian just ate the last morsel of the food on his plate when it disappeared. He waited with bated breath until the dessert appeared. He took a moment to breathe in the delicious dishes, allowing the smells to settle in his nose.
After a few moments, Julian picked his favorite dessert and allowed himself to take a large piece of chocolate cake. The explosion of taste on his tongue reminded him of home and his mother's cooking, making him a little homesick.
To his surprise, the dessert vanished soon after and the curfew was announced by the new Headmaster. As the prefects started to gather the first years, Julian looked around for the Ravenclaw Quidditch captain. He wanted to ask them if he was still a Chaser on the team or not, but he could not see them anywhere.
Shrugging, Julian stood up and dusted off his uniform, taking a familiar route to the Ravenclaw Common Room. He wondered if he would survive the trip, since he ate an unusual large amount of food tonight.
Sinead kept very much to herself like always during the feast. Very much a lone wolf, the girl had hardly made any friends during her time at the school due to the fact she had closed herself off so much. She glanced down the table to her sister and then back to her plate again as the remains of her meal vanished, with dessert soon appearing. Once dessert had finished and the curfew had been announced, Sinead stood up and made her way back to the Slytherin Common room and her dorm.
Thomas smiled smugly throughout the next part of the feast. He believed himself to have won. After all, surely Jacob wouldn't chance anything else at the Welcoming Feast. They had pushed their luck already, even he knew that. Knowing it and caring were two different things though. Even Thomas could imagine tossing at least one more thing...
He only entertained the idea though. When one of the sixth years beside him started a tale of a professional Quidditch match they'd been to over the summer, he forgot about his little war with Jacob and listened intently.
Thomas nodded and laughed in response to one of his housemate's comments about a professional Quidditch player. The moment that his hand closed around his goblet though, something grabbed ahold of him. "BLOODY HELL!" He shouted as he shot up off of the bench.
Since that earned him more than one stern look, Thomas hunched down over his plate and bowed his head. After a couple of moments had passed, he shifted a bit on the bench and glanced toward who he assumed the culprit was. Seabrook. However, movement out of the corner of his eye caught his attention and he turned just in time to see Jacob readjusting his robes. Thomas narrowed his eyes at his best friend but he couldn't hold the stern expression for long. He grinned back at the other boy and shook his head in mock defeat. In reality, though, he was already cooking up his revenge. He had all year, after all. Jacob may have won this battle, but Thomas was determined to win 'the war'.
When dessert appeared, all thoughts of pranks faded to the back of his mind. Thomas descended on the chocolate cake like a starved man, despite eating two full plates during dinner, and drank his fill of hot chocolate too. By the time he was done, the first years had already been escorted out and most of the Professors had finished up. He yawned, stretched and then stood up and strode toward the huge double doors.
Dinner was replaced by dessert. Callie grabbed a few items, though she was getting very tired and it didn't quite register to her what she was eating, anymore. At least it was good, whatever it was. Maybe tomorrow she'd be more alert.
Sophia suggested she make a speech, and she froze. A speech? In front of everyone? Well...she probably, should, but...
"I think maybe it'd be best to leave that to the prefects tonight. Maybe tomorrow?" She smiled apologetically at her friend, hoping she hadn't disappointed her too much. "Definitely soon, though - you're right."
Unfortunately, that was about all that Callie had the energy for. She got up to head to the common room, but tiredness continued to sap at her, and she barely had the strength to send herself to bed right away, missing all the fun.
Danielle had nearly filled herself when dessert appeared. Fortunately, she did still have a little room so she took some pudding for herself and ate it quickly, stifling a yawn. It had been a very long, busy day...she'd be ready for sleep soon.
She finished dessert, and the time came for the prefects to escort them to their common room. Right...she had no idea where to go. She joined the other Ravenclaw first years, staring around at the halls she walked through.
It felt like forever before they finally made it. Here was where she'd have to part from her friends for the night, sadly. She wished them goodnight and headed into her own dorm, falling asleep almost before her body landed on the bed.
