Personality
Lucas is all about himself. He likes to impress with his charm, only involves himself in matters that benefit him in some way, and is the first to act on his own behalf to avoid trouble or ill health. He comes off as being selfish, though house loyalty is important to him. He spends time tricking others and enjoys spreading unflattering rumours around school. Lucas is mischievous and manipulative, but doesn't like to be seen as vulnerable so keeps his better self hidden.
He's quite cowardly and there's little he won't do to evade detention or blame. Lucas eavesdrops and schemes to offer assistance to others – for a price. His charm isn't infallible though. Sometimes he'll say the wrong thing or frustration gets the best of him.
Despite all his flaws and trickery, Lucas isn't mean-spirited at heart. He can mean well when it matters and is very serious when the situation calls for it. He forms close bonds and is loyal to them, it just takes a lot of determination or convincing for him to defend others and play the hero when necessary.

Backstory
Lucas is an only child. He comes from an esteemed pureblood family with strong historical ties to Britain. However, he's one of the few to attend school as members of the Mardling family were usually tutored by the greatest, private educators the Wizarding world has to offer.
Lucas chose to break tradition, with the help of his Great-Uncle Clyde, and attend Hogwarts – something his parents consider unforgivable. They abandoned their eleven-year-old son at the platform to fend for himself. Lucas has barely seen or spoken to them since. The resentment on both sides caused him to never go home for the holidays, only leaving Hogwarts for the summer when he has no choice. Even then, his company consists of house selves and the occasional relative who he's convinced only visits to annoy him.
Spoiled with money and materialistic items all his life, Lucas wouldn't handle going a great length of time without getting something he wanted. Not particularly studious, he prioritises his own entertainment, and is cunning in his methods to avoid consequences for his actions. He appears charming and all-knowing, always up to something and uncaring of other people's problems. Yet little is known about his home life, and Lucas keeps it that way – the subject of his parents' abandonment is where his confidence and self esteem falter, which he cannot allow to ruin his reputation at Hogwarts.
Lucas enjoys Quidditch and often takes bets for the matches at school. He gets along well enough with members of his own house and will take risks for them as long as he's thoroughly planned his own escape route to avoid any aftermath. Though primarily focused on himself, Lucas cares deeply for his friends and puts considerable effort into helping them if they land in any real trouble. Ultimately, he generally sides with the “highest bidder” and isn't opposed to selling others out if it helps himself.
He finds Muggles rather hilarious, and has nothing against other houses. Lucas boasts wealth and blood purity as part of his reputation, though in reality he isn't granted as much allowance from his family that he believes he deserves as their only heir.
He wants to work at the Ministry when he graduates, though the concept of a desk job deeply displeases him so he hopes to find something more suited and to his liking by then. He'd be happiest if he didn't have to work at all but his father has threatened to cut his inheritance when he comes of age. Lucas doesn't want to take chances in case the man's serious.
