We want to ensure this RPG is safe and enjoyable for everyone. Our members are important to us and the growth of this RPG; please reach out with any issues or suggestions you may have.

1. Under no circumstances should you give out your password or reveal personal/sensitive information. If someone's asking for this, please inform the Admin immediately. We also have no tolerance for bullying or spam. HAU is a diverse and LGBT+ friendly community.

2. Try to make RP posts at least a paragraph - roughly 5-7 sentences. It gives us something to respond to. This rule is only a guideline; we understand that sometimes a post needs to be short and brief, just don't make a habit of it.
Every RP post must be in third person and past tense.

3. 6th and 7th years at Hogwarts are reached by finishing the year previous because NEWT students have increased advantages and skills. If your character has Hogwarts-age siblings, they can be mentioned but it isn't necessary for them to be actual characters on site.

4. This is a literate roleplay, so we'd appreciate if you proof-read posts prior to submitting them. If you need it, there's a spell-check function available when posting.

5. God-moding and Autoing will not be tolerated. While you control your own character, you also control his/her family when necessary (going home for the summer, etc) unless they too are members of this site.

6. Please keep swearing and adult content to a minimum; nothing too vulgar or excessive.

7. If you wish to speak out of character in a RP zone, do so parenthetically and mark it as OOC.
Example: [OOC: _______]

8. We understand members have different amounts of spare time, but try to be active when you can. It ruins the experience for others if they’re left waiting too long for a reply. If you're going to be away for a period of time, notify a staff member or use the "Member Network" area on the main page.

9. Using smileys during a non-IC section or OOC paragraph is fine. However, using them in an IC post is not acceptable. It breaks the sentence structure, pulls away from the actual RP post, and is considered annoying.

10. New members are permitted 1 character. When you reach a post count of 100, you're allowed a 2nd character if you can manage both – PM the Admin to make a request. An additional character must be in a different Hogwarts year than your other characters. The maximum Hogwarts-age characters per non-staff member is 3. To get a 3rd character, both your 1st and 2nd ones must have a post count over 300. Only 1 of your characters can be on their house Quidditch team. There's no limit for graduated/adult characters.

11. Character accounts that haven't been logged into for 4 months will be considered for removal. If you're going to be absent for a long time, let us know and your account will be safe. There are limited spaces in each Hogwarts dormitory so prolonged inactivity means those characters may be removed or archived to allow place for a new member. If you no longer want to play a character or you intend to leave the site, please inform the Admin beforehand. You will lose all progress.
Note: If you'd simply like to start over with a new character, replacing the old one in the process, that can easily be arranged.

12. Your character cannot be in two places at once and time-turners don't exist; you should leave an RP thread before posting in another. If you're still posting elsewhere when your class begins, your character may be considered late and receive a detention.

13. What spells your character knows are shown in your profile under "Magical Skills", with incantations and descriptions of their use. More are learned through classes or quests. To cast a spell, have the incantation in italics. “General Magic” should be done realistically according to your character's age and skill. Use of magic is carefully monitored.

14. Your character can be injured or die. The Hospital Wing is always available for restoring health - healing draughts also help. Choosing to duel, partake in quests, use Potions/Herbology kits, or play Quidditch may endanger your character, but they won't be killed without warning. Be alert and choose your battles wisely, even if your character doesn't.

15. When creating an RP thread, include the current # in its title. On HAU, we divide each month into #'s rather than days to ensure effective passage of time. The RPG Chart table on the main page is for reference of current time, weather, and otherwise which should be considered when posting.
Example title: “#15 – Sneaking out again”.

We want your RP experience to be enjoyable, interesting, and fair. If you get stuck and don't know how to proceed or what to do next, let staff know. The "Need Help?" section on the main page is always open for any questions or concerns you have; use it whenever needed. We also have an active Discord where staff are online daily. You can message a staff member if you prefer discussing something in private.
